What is a Comparator:
- It is a precision measuring device used for comparing the dimensions with that of working standards.
- It works on the principle of relative measurements.
- It does not measure the actual dimensions but indicates how the size of the part differs from the working standards.
- The readings are executed by suitable arrangements. Measurement can be done with rapid and accurate. It is used in mass production. Comparator are used to check dimensions and geometric forms.
Classifications of Comparators:
- Mechanical comparator.
- Mechanical-optical comparator.
- Electrical and electronic comparator.
- Penumatic comparator.
- Fluid displacement comparator.
- Projection Comprator.
- Multi check comparator.
- Automatic gauging comparator.
Uses of Comparator:
- They are used as final inspection.
- They are used in mass production which needs quick check with very high speed.
- Gauges which are newly purchased are inspected by the use of comparators.
- They are used as laboratory standards.
- When the Comparators are attached to different machines, they can be used as a working gauge which is used as preventing work damage.
- This is used as a selective assembly of parts, which involves grading of parts into three or more groups based on their tolerance.
