What is a Rolling mills:
A rolling mills are the manufacturing industries to shape the metal sheet’s in a required dimensions. rolling mills can press the sheets, crush etc..
Rolling mills:
In this article we will learn about Rolling Mills and different Types. Rolling mills are various types and they are classified according to the number of rollers and arrangement of the rolls to make different types of sheets to press. This mills plays a major role in manufacturing industry for metal sheet press/enlarging, by using this system we can produce the required size of sheets. this rollers are arranged in different way according to the requirement of production.
Different types of size rollers and bearings to control their speed of roller and applying power it needs at time of production. This Rolling Mills required A huge power and large motors.
Types of rolling mills:
1. Two high pullover rolling mill.
2. Two high reversing mills.
3. Three high rolling mills.
4. Four high rolling mills.
5. Cluster rolling mill.
6. Continuous rolling mill.
7. Planetary rolling mill.
Two high pullover mill:
- In this type of mills, the rolls have the same size and they roll in only one direction. the work piece is placed in between the rolls, this makes the work piece into a required size. the drawing of the work piece is done by friction in between them.

Two high reversing mills:
- In this type, the rolls can move in both the directions forward and backward. this improves the work output.
- In this, we can adjust the size of production and the rate of reduction. In this process, we can make it into reverse direction also and we can arrange different types of grooves sizes at upper and lower rolls by this the various cross-sectional area is achieved.
Three high mills:
- In this type of mills it consists of three rolls which are place Upper, Lower and in Middle, in this, both works can be done at a time.
- In this, it does not require reversing the process. but it is not much flexible as two high mills. and can produce high output than two high reversing mills. but for changing the product we need some elevators to make the material and manipulators rise or lower it.
Four high mills:
- In this it has two small rollers and large rollers, Small rollers run with the help of large rollers. by using this the required power is decreased due to the small diameter rollers has less strength and rigidity.
- In this workpiece is placed in between the small rollers by this work is carried out, the pressure required for the small roller is given by large rollers. in this rigidity is increased by reducing the bending and flattening of rolls.
Cluster mill:
- In this mills the work is done to a close tolerance, in this, the work is done by small rolls, each roll is supported by two other rolls in this mill.
- This type of mills are used for rolling the hard materials, stainless steel etc.. are used to roll in this mills. to make this hard work on materials this should be made from tungsten carbide.
Continuous mill:
- In this type of mills, it has the number of stands with small rollers which is su[ported by another roller. The work is done by passing the same amount of material to each stand at a given time.
- The speed must be increased according to the change in cross-section reducing. This speed must be changed according to the cross-section of the area if this is not done correctly the material gets damaged due to excessive tension on it.
Planetary mill:
- In this type the backing roll is provided with a large number of small rollers this is called planetary rolls. These mills are used for getting high output. this can make the slab directly into the strip by one pass. In this, each roller gets in contact with work piece and pass to another this repeats on.
- These planetary rolls are supported by one huge roller. to improve the surface finish planishing rolls is needed.
