Critical Cooling Rate: Critical Cooling Rate is the lowest cooling rate which is used to form a hard structure which contains a brittle solid solution of carbon in iron. this method obtains a hardened steel which has less cracking and low distortion in hardening.
According to the stability of its austenite, the harden-ability of steel depends, this is when the temperature from 1100 to 900 degree F.
The factor that highly influencing the critical cooling rate is when there is an alloy of iron and carbon and an only the carbon steel they used to increase in critical cooling rate with the decreasing the carbon content. By this, there is an increase in steel harden-ability by decreasing the critical cooling rate. it is possible to decrease the cracks forming, and increase the harden-ability of metal with the low cooling rate.
