Lancashire Boiler
Lancashire Boiler: Lancashire Boiler is a horizontal type and stationary fire tube boiler. Lancashire Boiler is invented by Sir William Fairbairn in 1844. In Lancashire Boiler the flue gases flow through the fire tube, situated inside the boiler shell, so this is called fire tube boiler. Lancashire Boiler generates low-pressure steam.

Construction of Lancashire Boiler:
- This has two tubes inside the boiler, in this water is filled up to half of the drum due to the remaining space is covered by the help of generated steam, as same as the Cornish boiler to prevent the flow of ash into the tubes bricks are used. there is furnace used inside of the boiler. water is controlled by the help of economizer. By this process, the heat in the gases can transfer up to the maximum.
- In this, it can produce a high amount of steam and can withstand overloads.
- The Lancashire Boiler boiler can operate easily with less maintenance.
Main Parts:
- Two large fire tubes, Safety valve, Pressure gauge, Economizer, Asphit, Grate, Chimney.etc..
Working Principle of Lancashire Boiler:
- This boiler is used to produce the steam by heating the water which is done by a heat exchanging process. this done in a boiler shell which contains two flue tubes which are large in size.
- By the help of coal, heat is produced ingrate, this used to flow the hot gases into the tubes which are in boiler shell ( internal flue tubes) after this is used to pass through the bottom flue to the front of the boiler. This gases then enter into the main flue and released to the atmosphere by the help of chimney.
- This boiler can produce a high amount of steam. thermal efficiency is high.
